My first Christmas in O. C. saw no festive light shows, no midnight Christmas caroling, no immature high jinks, but plenty of frosted window panes and eerie silence. I can only guess that my neighbors in this purportedly "swim-and-sin" city, for some reason, prefer quiet harmony.
Orange County continues to surprise me. The last-minute chaotic shopping in the stores seemed, well, orderly. Even the toddlers behaved as if they had an understanding that mom and dad were there in the store to perform a quick and clinical duty of buying things to put under that tall tree in the living room. Toys? They'd had plenty all through the year, why would a particular calendar day bring more for them? No reason. No need. Big yawn.
