Woolf and Bellow

Half whimsically and half defiantly, I used to proclaim that my English teachers are Virginia Woolf and Saul Bellow, because their magnificent prose inspired me to focus on writing novels. Alas, their lightning talent also struck dead my wishful thinking of writing anything remotely of their caliber.

Lately, there has been abundant news about people ascending to heaven, but at this moment, the only two people in heaven that matter to me are Woolf and Bellow. Characteristically, these two literary giants are like night and day, but I'd like to fancy that they are getting along up there and might even find time to have tea together.
