On the Launch Pad


The editing is done. The novel has been chopped down to 59,900 words from 85,000. One character is drastically reduced in size, and one narrative strand is totally cut, but the story is intact. Those 25,000 or so words tossed aside won't be missed. I doubt I could be this brave to cut out that much right after I finished the book. Keeping the manuscript in the drawer for a while removes the emotional attachment.

Now the book is being prepped on the "launch pad", to use the NASA lingo. The countdown begins...
