Notice how YouTube is rolling out new features constantly, like the "HQ" indicator at the bottom of the player; if it is red then you're watching High-Quality playback, whereas gray color indicates Normal-Quality playback, which you have the choice of clicking on to switch to red "HQ", as in "High-Quality" playback.

These "High-Quality" and "Normal-Quality" playback options, however, do not apply to early-model computers, which YouTube just provides a low-quality and mono-sound playback, but at least you get to see something, as opposed to some video hosting sites that basically exclude old computers from being able to display their videos.
